NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 6 Northeast Community College women's soccer team battled Hawkeye Community College at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk Saturday. The Hawks and Redtails played to a 0-0 draw at the conclusion of the 90 minutes.
Northeast (6-2-2, 0-0-1 ICCAC) had seven shots on goal compared to zero from Hawkeye but were unable to put a goal away. The tie in the matchup marks the second time in the last two years that the Hawks and Redtails have recorded a draw. Northeast will now compete with two different conference foes this week including a showdown with first-year program Northwest Iowa Community College on Wednesday.
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Women's Soccer Coach Chad Miller on the draw:
"Hawkeye is very well coached," Miller said. "They run their system very well. When you are up against that, you have to look for ways to break it down. I was really happy with our midfield, and I felt our defense did a great job keeping them from building a strong attack. However, I'd like us to be more creative in the attacking third."
Miller on getting into conference play fully this week:
"These are the games we prepare for," Miller said. "The warmup is over and now the real work begins. Every game matters. That's what makes this time of the year fun."
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will compete with Northwest Iowa Area Community College on the road at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sheldon, Iowa.
