Northeast (1-0) knew they were in for a fight when they placed fellow NJCAA DII Women's Soccer National Tournament participant Schoolcraft on their schedule, and the game certainly lived up to the billing. After a scoreless first half, Marleigh Leister (South Jordan, Utah) snuck through the defense and fired in a goal to put the Hawks on top. Hannah Thornell (Auckland, New Zealand) was fantastic in the net Northeast as the Hawks recorded their first clean sheet of the season and captured the victory.
STAT SHEET:

Saves: Hannah Thornell (Auckland, New Zealand) (6)
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Women's Soccer Coach Chad Miller's overall thoughts on how the ranked duel played out and the goal from Marleigh Leister:
"I asked the girls at half how we felt cardio-wise, and they said good," Miller said. "We felt like we played a good first half and we didn't want to give up a late goal. Marleigh and the girls proved it! An aggressive play by Marleigh set her up for the goal!"
Miller on how this enormous victory can propel his squad forward with two games to play this weekend:
"The game was very equal on both sides, so getting a win over a very good team is a great boost for the girls!" Miller said. "With another tough game coming up Saturday, this win is just what we needed to get ourselves on track!"
UP NEXT:
It won't get any easier for the Hawks as they will compete in another ranked matchup when they battle No. 19 Waubonsee Community College at 11 a.m. Saturday in Chicago, Illinois.
