Miller named Coach of the Year; Four Hawks earn First Team All-Region honors

On Tuesday, the ICCAC announced that head coach Chad Miller was again named the ICCAC DII Women's Soccer Coach of the Year for leading the Hawks to another successful season.
Naomi Pedroza (Hastings, Neb.), Romeni Gurmendi (Boulder, Colo.), Sara Pedroza (Hastings, Neb.) and Kailey Lincoln (Gold Coast, Queensland) were named First Team All-Region recipients.
N. Pedroza has tallied 27 goals and 10 assists in 19 games this season for the Hawks, while Gurmendi has added 18 goals and 18 assists in 22 games. S. Pedroza is tied for second on the team in goals with Gurmendi with 18, while dishing out 10 assists. In her first season with the Hawks, Lincoln has established herself as one of the top midfielders in the conference.
Kyler Bowman (Topeka, Kan.), Jessica Clinton (Brighton, Colo.), Erica Derby (Keenesburg, Colo.) and Brianna Mendias (Centennial, Colo.) earned Second Team All-Region honors, while Hannah Cherven (Brighton, Colo.) and Carolin Stahlmann (Ahrensburg, Germany) were named Honorable Mention All-Region.
As a freshman, Bowman has been staple for the Hawks as a center-mid, accounting for nine goals and four assists. Clinton has been one of the top defenders in the conference during her two-year career at Northeast, while Derby as solidified herself in the midfield. Mendias and Cherven have each been key pieces for the Hawks' backline.
In her first season as goalie, Stahlmann has started in 21 games and has accounted for 57 saves, 14 wins and nine shutouts.
The Hawks drew the No. 11 seed in the NJCAA DII Women's Soccer National Tournament and will face Jones College at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Stryker Complex in Wichita, Kan., followed by a match with Muskegon Community College at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
