The Hawks (16-5, 9-1 ICCAC) shutout Hawkeye Community College, 3-0 on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk to earn its second Region XI championship in back-to-back seasons.
"I am extremely happy with how our women played today," head coach Chad Miller said. "We knew Hawkeye would be physical and we knew they would come right us. Our women kept their focus and stuck with the game plan. I was proud of how composed we played and the intensity we played with. All three lines were playing incredible soccer today and we earned the win because of it."
From start to finish, the Hawks pressed the ball on the RedTail defense. Northeast when on to outshoot Hawkeye, 24-9 in the match.
Kyler Bowman (Topeka, Kan.) put the first goal on the scoreboard for the Hawks in the first half. Naomi Pedroza (Hastings, Neb.) gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead at halftime with her first goal of the game. Pedroza later kept the RedTails at bay with another goal late in the second half to seal the victory.
Carolin Stahlmann (Ahresnburg, Germany) had six saves in the net.
The Hawks host Allen County Community College in the North Plains District Championship at 3 p.m. Friday in Norfolk for a berth to the NJCAA DII Women's Soccer National Tournament. The national tournament in slated for Nov. 15-20 in Wichita, Kan.
