NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's soccer team won its sixth straight match on Saturday, taking care of Southeastern Community College in ICCAC play, 5-1 at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
The Hawks (11-5, 6-1 ICCAC) caught a break in the 21st-minute of the match as Southeastern recorded an own goal. Mackenzee Stokes (Ningi, Queensland) scored five minutes later, while Brianna Mendias (Centennial, Colo.) found the back of the net in the 41st-minute to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Romeni Gurmendi (Boulder, Colo.) scored the final two goals for the Hawks in the 58th and 61st-minute, respectively.
The Hawks outshot Southeastern, 17-7.
"I am happy about the win, but I felt our play wasn't as consistent as we would have like," head coach Chad Miller said. "I felt we played a bit casual and with less purpose than we have in previous games. The women have been playing amazing soccer recently and we need to keep it going."
The Hawks hit the road to visit Dakota County Technical College at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Rosemount, Minn.
