Gurmendi leads Hawks in shutout over NIACC

The Hawks (9-5, 4-1 ICCAC) had no issues scoring goals against North Iowa Area Community College as they topped the Trojans, 12-0 in an ICCAC match at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
Sara Pedroza (Hastings, Neb.) kicked off the Hawks' scoring with a goal in the fifth minute. Gurmendi went on to score the next two goals, followed by a goal from Kelsey Tabbert (Elkhorn, Neb.) in the 26th-minute. Gurmendi followed with two more goals, before Naomi Pedroza (Hastings, Neb.) found the back of the net in the 43rd-minute. The Hawks went on to take an 8-0 lead at halftime.
Gurmendi tallied her fifth goal in the 64th-minute, while Meghan Colton (Royal Oak, Mich.) scored six minutes later in the 70th-minute. Sara Pedroza tallied the final two goals for the Hawks in the 75th and 77th-minute, respectively.
Northeast outshot NIACC, 29-4.
"I was extremely happy with how we started out," head coach Chad Miller said. "We came out with a plan and the women executed everything to perfection. Our women were focused and played direct. They played with a purpose and I am very happy with our overall performance."
The Hawks visit Scott Community College at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Bettendorf, Iowa.
