NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's soccer team faced a tough task on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hawks (3-3) faced NJCAA DI and fifth-ranked Iowa Western Community College, falling 3-1 at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
Before the end of the first half, Frida Aguilar-Ximello (Boulder, Colo.) found the back of the net off an assist from Sara Pedroza (Hastings, Neb.) in the 26th-minute to keep the Hawks in reach, trailing 2-1.
The Reivers used their dominant shooting ability and scored a goal in the second half to keep the Hawks at bay. Iowa Western outshot Northeast, 13-6.
"The competitive schedule these women are playing is brutal," head coach Chad Miller said. "Three DI nationally ranked teams in a matter of seven days is a tall task, but it is the type of competition we are looking for. Iowa Western took a 2-0 lead before Friday got us on the board in the 26th-minute. I really felt like we were going to even it up, but Iowa Western is very good at capitalizing on mistakes, and they did just that. I thought we played well, and I am happy with this group."
The Hawks host Iowa Central Community College at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Norfolk.
