MASON CITY, Iowa – The No. 16 Northeast Community College women's soccer team picked up a road ICCAC victory on Wednesday, topping North Iowa Area Community College by the final of 3-0 in Mason City, Iowa.
Naomi Pedroza (Hastings, Neb.) scored early for the Hawks (4-2-1, 4-2-1) to keep the Trojans searching for answers. Pedroza tallied a goal in the fourth minute and in the 10th-minute to put the Hawks up 2-0 at halftime.
In the 52nd-minute, Jonatha Tighe (Broomfield, Colo.) found the back of the net, thanks to an assist from Frida Aguilar-Ximello (Boulder, Colo.) to put the game out of reach for the Trojans. Mackenzie Byrnes (Brighton, Colo.) had six saves in the net.
"NIACC made us work for it," head coach Chad Miller said. "I am glad we scored early and fast, that carried us to the win. NIACC did a great job at controlling the play. We got a bit unorganized at times so we will need to do better as we play forward. We got the win and that is what matters most."
The Hawks visit Southeastern Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday in West Burlington, Iowa.
