NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's soccer team had arguably one of its best seasons in program history come to an end on Saturday afternoon.
In the 98th-minute of an ICCAC playoff match, Hawkeye Community College hit the game-winning goal to drop the Hawks, 2-1 at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
Northeast (13-5, 5-3 ICCAC) was first on the board in the 18th-minute when Kahrena Thompson (Jamestown, Colo.) found the back of the net off an assist from Mandy Stricker (Broomfield, Colo.). Hawkeye tied the game in the 41st-minute and ultimately took the game in the first overtime.
The Hawks out-shot the RedTails, 30-7. Mackenzie Byrnes (Brighton, Colo.) had four saves.
"Hawkeye played a great game and I commend them for their effort," head coach Chad Miller said. "They got the goals when they needed them and they did a great job of keeping us out. This was an amazing season for our girls with a lot of records broken. You always wish you could end it with a win, but we can be very proud of the season we had. Another great building block for this program and Northeast."
Northeast tallied 13 wins this season, the most in program history.
