ESTHERVILLE, Iowa – In arguably one of its best seasons so far in program history, the Northeast Community College women's soccer added another win on Friday in double overtime in Estherville, Iowa.
The Hawks squared off with Iowa Lakes Community College and came away with a hard-fought 1-0 victory, in a match that was previously postponed due to weather.
Lorry Romain (San Fernando, Trinidad) found the back of the net off an assist from Kahrena Thompson (Jamestown, Colo.) to give the Hawks their third conference win of the season.
Northeast out-shot Iowa Lakes, 21-4.
"We knew coming in this would be a tough game," head coach Chad Miller said. "They are a talented group of girls and they are well coached. We knew we had to play our best game. We moved the ball well and did a good job of creating space, but had a tough time finding the net. Thankfully, we capitalized on an opportunity and got the game winning goal."
The Hawks square off with Iowa Central Community College in an ICCAC match at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Veteran's Memorial Field in Norfolk.
