NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's soccer team (5-1) went straight to work on Tuesday night in its home opener, toppling College of Saint Mary JV, 6-0 at Veteran's Memorial Field in Norfolk.
Naomi Pedroza (Hastings, Neb.) had one her best games so far in a Hawks uniform, notching a hat trick early in the second half. She kicked off the Northeast scoring in the 26th-minute to put the Hawks up 1-0. Minutes later, the Flames hit the ball into their own goal to give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage. Pedroza countered again in the 56th-minute to open up the second-half scoring surge.
Less than a minute a later, Pedroza found the back of the net off an assist from Mandy Stricker (). Abby Podraza (Columbus, Neb.) tallied a goal in the 63rd-minute, while Lorry Romain (San Fernando, Trinidad) put the game out of reach with a goal in the 71st-minute.
"We tried to do too much too fast in the first half, but we settled in well again in the second to get ourselves going," head coach Chad Miller said. "The girls played another great game!"
The Hawks out-shot the Flames 35-1, while Kahrena Thompson (Jamestown, Colo.) added two shots on goal for Northeast.
Northeast returns to the pitch at 2 p.m. Friday against Central Wyoming College. The location is yet to be determined.
