Northeast women bounce back from halftime deficit

NORFOLK, Neb. – Down by two goals heading into halftime, Hailey Curry sparked the Northeast Community College women's soccer team on Sunday, defeating Northeastern Junior College 5-3 at Memorial Field in Norfolk.

It wasn't an easy task for the Hawks (7-6-1, 6-3 ICCAC), but strong possessions and a stout defense opened opportunities for Northeast in the second half. Tayler Ohu put the Hawks on the scoreboard in the 47^th minute, followed by another goal in the 53^rd minute from Dayla Miller.

With the game tied at three, the Hawks didn't go down without a fight. Amanda Stricker found the back of the net in the 60^th minute and Curry sealed the victory for Northeast in the 74^th minute.

"In the second half, our girls did a great job of pushing the pace and keeping the pressure on Northeastern's defense," head coach Chad Miller said. "I was proud of how well our girls stayed composed and didn't quit when it could have been so easy. Our girls put together a great second half. We play with confidence, and I hope we can continue that going into the playoffs."

The Hawks outshot Northeastern, 18-7. Ellie Gess recorded four shots and two assists, while Curry, Ohu and Stricker added three apiece.

Northeast will face North Iowa Area Community College in the first round of the ICCAC Tournament at 3 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Field in Norfolk.
