Hawks top Blue Knights for fourth conference win

NORFOLK, Neb. – Tayler Ohu made her presence known on Saturday, scoring two goals and propelling the Northeast Community College women's soccer team over Dakota County Technical College 5-1 in ICCAC play at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.

The Hawks (4-4, 4-1 ICCAC) were first on the scoreboard in the first minute of the match, thanks to goal from Ellie Gess. The Blue Knights answered with a goal in the 10^th minute, but it was Ohu that found the back of the net two minutes later.

In the second period, it was all Northeast as Mary Perez, Blair Buckingham and Ohu put the game out of reach for Dakota County.

"I felt our girls played a complete game," head coach Chad Miller said. "We controlled our possession and stay composed in front of the goal. Scoring has been a mental block for us this season, but we looked much more relaxed in scoring opportunities today than we have in previous matches. Dakota County has a couple of girls who are dangerous when they have the ball and I felt our girls did a great job of closing them down and not allowing them much space."

Ohu finished with five total shots, while Perez added four. The Hawks out-shot DCTC 24-1.

"I feel this was a good confidence builder for us," Miller added.

The Hawks hit the road on Wednesday, traveling to Hawkeye Community College for a 2 p.m. match in Waterloo, Iowa.
