HAWKS FACE UPHILL CLIMB AGAINST NO. 2 EAGLES SATURDAY
NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team was back home for a conference showdown with No. 2 Kirkwood Community College Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. The Hawks fell in the matchup by a final score of 90-40.
NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team was back home for a conference showdown with No. 2 Kirkwood Community College Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. The Hawks fell in the matchup by a final score of 90-40.
Northeast (11-15, 7-10 ICCAC) knew the Eagles would provide a strong challenge and that was indeed the case as the Hawks were held to their fewest-point total of the year thus far. Allison Richards (Pine Ridge, S.D.) was the leading scorer for Northeast while Clara Garrote (Salamanca, Spain) filled the stat sheet with six points, three rebounds and five steals. The Hawks will now head into a crucial game for the ICCAC standings on Wednesday against Ellsworth Community College as the Region 11 Tournament is just two weeks away.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the battle with No. 2 Kirkwood:
"We struggled on both ends of the court, but Kirkwood showed why they are the second-ranked team in the country today," Svehla said. "They were clicking on all cylinders, and we did not have any answers."
Svehla on finishing the year strong with three games left in the regular season:
"We can play better than we played today and hopefully we will do that in our final regular-season games," Svehla said.

The Hawks will hit the road to take on Ellsworth Community College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
