NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team competed in their second contest in three days Thursday night in a battle with Morningside University JV at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. The Hawks topped the Mustangs by a final score of 89-80 in overtime to secure their second victory of the week.
Northeast (2-3) put on a show in front of a rather large crowd as the 89 points from the Hawks were 20 more than their previous high this year. High-school teammates Allison Richards (Pine Ridge, S.D.) and Stevi Fallis (Pine Ridge, S.D.) were the story again for Northeast as Richards tallied 34 points and seven rebounds while Fallis totaled 27 points and three assists. Fellow Red Cloud High School teammate Sharissa Haas (Pine Ridge, S.D.) was also in double figures as she added 14 points and five rebounds.
Morningside JV buried a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining in the second half to send the matchup into overtime, but the Hawks were able to put that behind them and pull ahead in the extra frame to claim the win.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on how the evening played out:
"We really played well for much of the game, but we failed to put them away," Svehla said. "Some of that was good play by Morningside and some of that was bad defense and bad offense on our part."
Svehla on overcoming adversity at the end of the second half to grab the victory:
"Considering how we finished regulation, I was pretty happy with how we responded in overtime," Svehla said. "We still need to figure out how to play more consistently for 40 minutes, but we did a lot of good things tonight."
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will wrap up their busy week by hosting North Platte Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
