COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team made their final road trip of the regular season Wednesday night as they headed to Council Bluffs, Iowa to duel with No. 8 Iowa Western Community College. The Reivers got the best of the Hawks by a final score of 87-74.
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team made their final road trip of the regular season Thursday night as they headed to Council Bluffs, Iowa to duel with No. 8 Iowa Western Community College. The Reivers got the best of the Hawks by a final score of 87-74.
The Hawks (15-11, 7-8 ICCAC) hung tough with nationally ranked Iowa Western most of the night and shot better than the Reivers from three and from the free-throw line. Analyssa Maldonado (Sunnyside, Wash.) led Northeast in scoring as she totaled 21 points in 34 minutes played. Lexi Schroder (Stuart, Neb.) had 10 important points off the bench in the showdown.
There will be one final regular season game for the Hawks and then they will have a week off before the playoffs begin.

Head women's basketball coach Matt Svehla on how his team competed tonight:
"We gave a good effort on both ends on the floor, but Iowa Western had a couple of runs to keep us at a distance," Svehla said. "It's always tough to lose, but Iowa Western is a talented team and our girls battled until the end."
Svehla on finishing the regular season strong:
"We have one home game remaining on Saturday and that will also be a day to honor our sophomores who have given so much to our program," Svehla said.
UP NEXT:
Northeast will play in their final regular season matchup of the season as they will host North Iowa Area Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. Sophomores Alexis Bliven (Holdrege, Neb.), Marta Pons (Sevilla, Spain) and Autumn Dickmander (Brule, Neb.) will be honored at the conclusion of the women's game.
