NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team welcomed Des Moines Iowa Area Community College to the Cox Activities Center Wednesday night for the first of two meetings of the squads this year. The Hawks took the thrilling contest by a final score of 69-67 to snap their two-game losing streak.
The Hawks (7-4, 1-1 ICCAC) never led in the first, second or third quarters of the matchup but were ahead on the scoreboard when it mattered most. The Bears led by just three at the halftime break but were able to get up by as much as 10 early in the third quarter. Northeast entered the final frame down nine and with work to do.
The Hawks would continue to trail as they were down seven points with just 30 seconds left on the clock. A 3-pointer from Allison Richards (Pine Ride, S.D.), another trey from Analyssa Maldonado (Sunnyside, Wash.), two missed free throws from DMACC and a jumper from Sharissa Haas (Pine Ridge, S.D.) erased the seven-point deficit and gave Northeast the victory.
The Hawks shot 30-percent from the three-point line compared to 23.8-percent from the Bears and made 78.6-percent of their free throws while the Bears only made 50-percent of theirs.
STAT SHEET:
Analyssa Maldonado (Sunnyside, Wash.): 21 PTS, 3 REB, 5 AST, 2 STL
