BOONE, Iowa – In their prior two games three different Northeast Community College women's basketball players had reached double figures in scoring, and Wednesday night that streak continued with four Hawks players reaching the double-digit milestone. However, it wasn't enough as Des Moines Area Community College prevailed 70-63 in the ICCAC matchup.
At the end of the first quarter the Hawks (7-15, 4-8 ICCAC) trailed by five, and they took that same five-point deficit to the locker room at halftime. By the end of the third quarter the Hawks had cut the Bears advantage to four.
Autumn Dickmander (Brule, Neb.) led the way in scoring with 18 points and five steals. Ashley Hassett (Hershey, Neb.) recorded another double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Lorna Maxon (Laurel, Neb.) also joined the double-double club with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Molly Davis (Yutan, Neb.) chipped in another 12 points and seven assists.
Turnovers allowed the Hawks to stay within striking distance of the lead all game, as they forced the Bears into 21 turnovers compared to the 16 from the Hawks.
The Hawks are back home at 3 p.m. Saturday at Cox Activities Center in Norfolk for a standalone game against Southeastern Community College.
