KEOKUK, Iowa – A nearly three-minute cold stretch late in the game proved to be costly for the Northeast Community College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, falling to Southeastern Community College, 65-55 in Keokuk, Iowa.
The Hawks (4-9, 1-2 ICCAC) were led in scoring by Ashley Hassett (Hershey, Neb.) with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Hassett did not check-out of the game once as she played the entire 40 minutes. Hassett was equally impressive from the free throw line as she went a perfect 15-of-15.
Hassett wasn't the only player to play extended minutes as Marta Pons (Sevilla, Spain) and Molly Davis (Yutan, Neb.) each played 39 minutes. Pons went 3-of-6 from three and totaled 15 points, while Davis added 11 rebounds and two assists.
After jumping out to a 13-7 lead in the first quarter, the Hawks took a 29-27 lead into halftime. The Hawks' shooting went cold late in the third quarter and lasted until early in the fourth. The Blackhawks lead stood at 56-51, and they were able to build on it as they kept the Hawks in check down the stretch.
The Hawks return home for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff on Wednesday at the Cox Activities Center to square off with Southwestern Community College.
