Maxon and Hassett lead Hawks past Ellsworth
IOWA FALLS, Iowa -- Lorna Maxon (Laurel, Neb.) and Ashley Hassett (Hershey, Neb.) combined for 35 points on Wednesday night as the Northeast Community College women's basketball team cruised past Ellsworth Community College, 68-57 in Iowa Falls, Iowa.

The Hawks (4-8, 1-1 ICCAC) went right to work in the first half, taking a 36-22 lead into in halftime. Northeast managed to outscore Ellsworth, 21-8 in the second quarter. The Hawks' defense stepped up in big ways throughout the night, holding the Panthers to 33 percent shooting from the field and 29 percent from beyond the arc.
Hassett led the Hawks with 25 points and nine rebounds, while shooting 8-of-17 from the field. Maxon had a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards, while Marta Pons (Sevilla, Spain) chipped in 10 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists. Autumn Dickmander (Brule, Neb.) added 10 points and four steals.
The Hawks hit the road to take on Southeastern Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Keokuk, Iowa.
