NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team outscored North Iowa Area Community College in the fourth quarter of an ICCAC matchup on Saturday, but it wasn't enough, falling 67-62 at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
The Hawks (3-8, 0-1 ICCAC) couldn't get a defensive stop when they needed to the most after mounting a comeback in the third quarter. Molly Davis (Yutan, Neb.) made it a five-point game after sinking a 3-pointer with 1:21 to play in the third.
The Hawks again came within five points after Autumn Dickmander (Brule, Neb.) nailed a 3-pointer with 5:01 to play in the contest. Dickmander was later fouled and hit both free throws to bring the Hawks within a point. NIACC pushed its lead to four points, but it was Davis again that kept the Hawks within striking distance with another three-pointer. The Trojans managed to control the clock, forcing the Hawks to foul. The Hawks had a chance with less than 30 seconds to play, but couldn't capitalize.
Ashley Hassett (Hershey, Neb.) tallied 15 points and eight rebounds. Lorna Maxon (Laurel, Neb.) pitched in 13 points and seven boards on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. Davis added 11 points and seven boards, while Dickmander had 10 points.
The Hawks hit the road to face Ellsworth Community College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
