NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team went head-to-head with North Platte Community College on Tuesday night and couldn't come away with an overtime win, falling 73-66 at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
Tied at halftime, the Hawks (3-7) took a four-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the Knights slowly began to mount a comeback. Autumn Dickmander (Brule, Neb.) hit a 3-pointer to give the lead back to the Hawks with 3:48 to play in regulation. Molly Davis (Yutan, Neb.) sank a much-needed 3-pointer with 1:25 to play that cut the Knights' lead to a point. A last second heave by Dickmander as time expired didn't find the bottom of the net, ultimately sending the game to overtime.
The Hawks' offense went stagnant in overtime until Ashley Hassett (Hershey, Neb.) made back-to-back layups that cut the Knights' lead to three points. NPCC tallied a layup and two free throws in the final minute that kept the Hawks at bay.
Hassett tallied 28 points and seven rebounds, while Davis added 15 points, eight boards and four steals.
