NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team took a five-point lead into halftime, but it wasn't enough as Northeastern Junior College outscored the Hawks (1-1) in the final two quarters to pull away with a 65-62 victory on Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
The Hawks held strong for the first two quarters but begin to miss open opportunities in the third quarter, while shooting just 20 percent from the field. Alexis Bliven (Holdrege, Neb.) hit a 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to give the Hawks a one-point lead with 1:21 to play after trailing by eight points four minutes earlier. Back-to-back layups by Northeastern proved to be the difference in the final 50 seconds of the game.
Ashley Hassett (Hershey, Neb.) tallied 22 points and 11 rebounds. Bliven added 10 points, while Molly Davis (Yutan, Neb.) had nine points, eight boards and four assists.
The Hawks host Central Community College at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Norfolk.
