Iowa Western tops Northeast in Region XI championship

The Hawks had a tough time answering the dominant offensive attack by the Reivers. Iowa Western shot 49 percent from the field and recorded 50 points in the second half, while all five starters scored in double digits.
Northeast held strong in the first quarter after Breanna Stouffer (David City, Neb.) and Lorna Maxon (Laurel, Neb.) hit back-to-back 3-pointers to open the scoring for the Hawks. The Hawks trailed by 10 points after the first quarter and only managed to score 13 in the second quarter as they went in the locker room down by 17 points.
The Hawks' largest scoring out-put came in the third quarter when they managed to tack on 24 points. Kyla Moore (Norfolk, Neb.) hit a layup with 6:28 to play in the quarter to pull the Hawks within 13 points, however, Iowa Western answered with back-to-back 3-pointers to keep Northeast out of striking distance.
Stouffer led the Hawks with 12 points and five rebounds. Macey Kulhanek (Howells, Neb.) added 12 points, while Beth Matas (Girona, Spain) had 11 points.
The Hawks conclude their season with an overall record of 27-4 and a 3-1 ICCAC record. Northeast was also a perfect 20-0 on its home court.
