With each member scoring at least a point, the Hawks (16-10, 2-2 ICCAC) made quick work of Marshalltown Community College 78-46 at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk to secure a spot in the Region XI Championship game on Saturday against Iowa Western Community College.
Northeast came out on fire, recording 39 first-half points, compared to 17 from the visiting Tigers. The Hawks received quality work from its bench, outscoring Marshalltown 42-12 in the game. Caitlin Orton (Mills, Neb.) led Northeast with 11 points, six rebounds and two steals in 17 minutes. Freshman Kyla Moore (Norfolk, Neb.) tallied seven rebounds, five points, four assists and three steals, while Macey Kulhanek (Howells, Neb.) added nine points, three boards and three steals.
Northeast managed to force 22 turnovers that turned into 26 points. The Hawks also out-rebounded the Tigers 35-24.
Sophomore Jade Blackburn (Surrey, England) managed to pitch in 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals on 4-of-7 shooting from the field. Fellow sophomore Irene Sanz (Vilassar de Mar, Spain) had 11 points.
The Hawks shot 46 percent from the field and held Marshalltown to just 30 percent.
Tip-off with Iowa Western is slated for 2 p.m. at the Reiver Fieldhouse in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
