NORFOLK, Neb. – Four Northeast Community College women's basketball players scored double digits as the Hawks routed Midland University JV 79-58 on Thursday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk, Neb.
The Hawks cruised from start to finish, putting up 25 and 21 points, respectively in the first and second quarters. With 1:32 left to play in the half, the Hawks pushed their lead to 24 points off a layup by Macey Kulhanek (Howells, Neb.).
At the start of the third quarter, freshman Blake Mann (Burwell, Neb.) found nothing but net to give the Hawks (7-6) a 25-point advantage. Seconds later, Mann hit a layup to cap a quick five-point scoring drive that ultimately put Northeast in the driver's seat for the rest of the contest.
"Overall, I thought we shot the ball well and distributed it effectively to put us in a position to win the game," head coach Matt Svehla said.
Mann led the Hawks with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. Jade Blackburn (Surrey, England) had 11 points and four boards, while Lauren Hunstad (Parker, S.D.) and Irene Sanz (Vilassar de Mar, Spain) had 10 points each. Freshman Kyla Moore (Norfolk, Neb.) came off the bench for the Hawks and did damage on both ends of the floor, tallying eight points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists.
The Hawks return to the court in 2019, taking on Midland University JV at 5 p.m. on Jan 8 at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
