KRUSE LIFTS NORTHEAST OFFENSE IN CONFERENCE OPENER AGAINST NO. 14 NIACC THURSDAY
NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team held their conference opener Thursday with a doubleheader against No. 14 North Iowa Area Community College. The Hawks fell in both contests by final scores of 8-3 and 9-0.

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team held their conference opener Thursday with a doubleheader against No. 14 North Iowa Area Community College. The Hawks fell in both contests by final scores of 8-3 and 9-0.
Northeast (12-15, 0-2 ICCAC) gave the ball to Isabel Raburn (Holdrege, Neb.) in Game 1 and then freshman again mowed through the opposition as Raburn struck out 11 Trojans batters in seven innings of work. Delaney Kruse (Wayne, Neb.) had a double and an RBI in the matchup, but the Hawks would go on to drop the first contest of the afternoon.
Kruse again picked up a hit in the second showdown of the day and freshman Rachel Hobbs (Hoskins, Neb.) allowed just one earned run in five innings of relief in the circle. Northeast will get back to work tomorrow with another ICCAC series against Ellsworth Community College on deck.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Softball Coach Erin Sharpe on the conference opener as a whole:
"I thought we came out and really competed today, besides one inning," Sharpe said. "I think today shows that we can compete with the best teams."
Sharpe on what her message to her team was before they take on Ellsworth tomorrow:
"I told them to keep the same mindset that they had today," Sharpe said. "Our swings and pitching were good, and I want to see that again tomorrow."
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will battle Ellsworth Community College beginning at 1 p.m. tomorrow in a doubleheader at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk.
