IOWA FALLS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College softball team wrapped up their regular season Sunday in a doubleheader against Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. The Hawks took both showdowns by final scores of 15-8 in Game 1 and 10-7 in Game 2.
Northeast (15-31, 4-20 ICCAC) swept the day for the fifth time on the campaign and now have earned the six seed for the Region 11 Tournament. The Hawks are guaranteed to compete in at least two matchups next weekend, but with four wins stacked in a row this weekend they are hoping to ride the momentum and make some noise in the postseason.
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head softball coach Iris Woodhead on completing the sweep Sunday:
"Great weekend for the girls!" Woodhead said. "We had some tough-fought battles and kept our composure. Really proud of Josie Knust (Plattsmouth, Neb.). She came in during both games and got us out of sticky spots. She was brilliant all weekend in the circle. It was fun to watch our bats come alive. We had some big-time hits one through nine in our lineup."
Woodhead on what lies ahead at the Region 11-B Tournament:
"We have some tough competition heading to Mason City," Woodhead said. "Tough side of the bracket, but if we keep our composure and excel at the little things, who knows what will happen. That's the exciting thing about the postseason. Anything is possible."
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will battle in the Region 11-B Tournament starting at 2 p.m. Friday against host North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa.
