RUNS SPARCE FOR NORTHEAST WEDNESDAY

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team welcomed North Platte Community College to Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk for their final regular season series at home Tuesday. The Knights grabbed both games by final scores of 2-1 and 5-4.

The Hawks (11-31, 0-20 ICCAC) trailed in much of Game 1 before Ahdriana Medrano (Grand Island, Neb.) hit a sacrifice fly that scored Mia Eickhoff (Redondo Beach, Calif.). However, the lead wouldn't last long as North Platte pushed across a run in the top of the seventh frame and secured the victory.

Northeast started Game 2 hot as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a sacrifice from Eickhoff that scored Nikki Peters (Broken Bow, Neb.) and a single from Alexis Folks (Arvada, Colo.) that plated both Tara Koch (Norfolk, Neb.) and Makynzie Loftus (Gilette, Wyo.). The Knights rallied for five runs of their own and took their second triumph of the afternoon.

"We have to have some passion," Woodhead said. "We have six games left. Four games against Ellsworth and then you are guaranteed two games at the Region 11 Tournament. The nice thing about our team is that we don't give up. If we show up with some passion it could be a good weekend."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will battle in their final regular season series of the season against Ellsworth Community College starting at 1 p.m. Saturday in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
