NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team was back at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk for the second time in two days as they hosted Central Community College Wednesday. The Raiders took Game 1 by a final score of 3-1 and came out on top 6-3 in Game 2.
The Hawks (11-25, 0-16 ICCAC) battled strong winds for the second day in a row as they have now played in four-straight showdowns without a home run from either side. Abby Balfour (Nebraska City, Neb.) drove in the only Northeast run in Game 1 in the third inning as Central did just enough to capture the victory.
Alexis Folks (Arvada, Colo.) started a big inning for the Hawks in the fifth inning of Game 2 as she, Balfour and Josie Knust (Plattsmouth, Neb.) all collected RBIs to give Northeast their first lead of the day. The Raiders added three more runs before Knust was robbed of a home run against the wall in the bottom of the seventh inning to conclude the matchup.
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head softball coach Iris Woodhead on not playing again for another 10 days:
"The week off is going to be huge for us," Woodhead said. "I don't know that we need to change much. We can't just rely on the top of the lineup. I really think that the week off is going to help us clear our heads. A couple days off and away from softball, sometimes you need that. It's a game that sometimes you have to be forgetful."
Woodhead on what she wants to see from her group next week:
"We'll come back at it next week and get some hitting in," Woodhead said. "I think that we need a couple of hard practices to get us back into the groove. Once we get those hard practices in, I think we'll be back where we need to be."
UP NEXT:
Northeast will travel to Iowa Central Community College for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
