BOONE, Iowa – The Northeast Community College softball team traveled to Beatrice, Nebraska Wednesday for two duels with Southeast Community College. The Storm took Game 1 by a final score of 4-3 before the Hawks came out on top by a final score of 9-1 in Game 2.
Northeast (5-9, 0-4 ICCAC) and Southeast played a tight contest in Game 1 as the Hawks were ahead on the scoreboard 3-1 after their portion of the seventh inning. The Storm rallied back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh frame to squeak out the victory.
Tara Koch (Norfolk, Neb.) was dazzling again for the Hawks as she only saw one runner for the Storm cross the plate during her appearance in the circle. The third inning for Northeast was a big one as the Hawks scored six runs and then added three more in the sixth inning to down Southeast in just six innings.
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head softball coach Iris Woodhead on the ending to Game 1:
"Tough loss in the seventh inning for us," Woodhead said. "We have to play big time when we are in situations like that."
Woodhead on how her group pulled through with a huge victory in Game 2:
"The biggest thing for us is we have to play every game the way we play best, which is fast and with energy," Woodhead said. "We matched their energy in the first game and just couldn't get out of that funk. Game 2 we played fast and with energy and the results speak for themselves."
