Northeast (3-3) got yet another huge effort in the circle from Tara Koch (Norfolk, Neb.) in Game 1 as the freshman tossed her third complete game of the young season. The Hawks put their nine runs on the board by the third inning and were able to hold off Cloud County the rest of the way.
Game 2 began in a similar fashion for Northeast as they held a 6-0 lead after their half of the third inning. The Thunderbirds rallied for three runs in the third inning, five runs in the fifth inning and three more runs in the sixth inning to take a 11-9 lead into the final frame. The Hawks pushed across one run in the seventh inning but ultimately came up short of extending the game. Alexis Folks (Arvada, Colo.) tallied three hits in the contest, bringing her total to six on the day.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head softball coach Iris Woodhead on how both games today played out:
"We need to win ballgames when our offense is able to score 10 runs," Woodhead said. "We have to be more competitive in the circle and on defense. A split isn't a positive thing for us, but we can either keep talking about learning from it or actually go out there and compete harder. Those are the only two options for us right now. I hope we choose the second one."
UP NEXT:
Northeast will travel to Central Community College for a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Columbus, Nebraska.
