DMACC takes down Northeast softball

BOONE, Iowa – The Northeast Community College softball team couldn't hold off the Des Moines Area Community College Bears on Wednesday, falling in an ICCAC doubleheader, 16-0 and 14-1 in Boone, Iowa.
The Bears exploded for 13 runs in the bottom of the second inning and the Hawks (10-40, 4-34 ICCAC) couldn't respond. Abby Balfour (Nebraska City, Neb.), Alyssa Turner (Columbus, Neb.) and Alondra Martinez (Grand Island, Neb.) each had a hit for Northeast. Kierra Stewart (Dodge, Neb.) took the loss after giving up seven earned runs off seven hits in one and one-third innings of work.
The Hawks were able to score a run against the Bears in the top of the second inning in Game 2. Morgan Haner (Sterling, Neb.), Greta Lindberg (Tekamah, Neb.) and Brianna Aguilera (Pierce, Neb.) each had a hit in the loss. Martinez took the loss, allowing eight earned runs off five hits.
The Hawks hit the road to take on Southeastern Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday for a doubleheader in West Burlington, Iowa.
