Hawks fall on the road in Iowa
CRESTON & ESTHERVILLE, Iowa – The Northeast Community College softball team hit the road on Saturday and Sunday and was unable to pick-up an ICCAC victory, falling to Southwestern Community College 13-0 and 7-2, before falling 8-6 and 6-4 to Iowa Lakes Community College in Creston and Estherville, Iowa.

CRESTON & ESTHERVILLE, Iowa – The Northeast Community College softball team hit the road on Saturday and Sunday and was unable to pick-up an ICCAC victory, falling to Southwestern Community College 13-0 and 7-2, before falling 8-6 and 6-4 to Iowa Lakes Community College in Creston and Estherville, Iowa.
The Hawks (3-45, 1-27 ICCAC) mustered only two hits against Southwestern in the first game from Lindsey Anderson (Dunlap, Iowa) and Madison McKewon (Springfield, Neb.).
McKewon was dealt the loss, tossing three innings, allowing five earned runs off six hits.
Northeast found two runs in the final game of the doubleheader on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as Southwestern answered with five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Anderson had three hits, while Maggie Berryman (Norfolk, Neb.), Chantel Julian (Roseville, Calif.) and Reagan Reicks (Dunlap, Iowa) each had two.
Anderson took the loss in the circle, allowing four earned runs off seven hits in four innings of work.
On Sunday, four runs in the top of the first inning sparked life into the Hawks' lineup, but four runs in the bottom of the fourth proved to be the difference for the Lakers.
Rosario Garcia (Northglenn, Colo.) went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Julian and McKewon each added two hits.
Anderson took the loss in relief, throwing one and one-third innings, giving up four earned runs off seven hits.
The Hawks gave the Lakers all they could handle in the final game, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth. Iowa Lakes was forced to find two runs in the final inning to keep the Hawks at bay.
Berryman went 3-for-3 at the plate, with two runs, two RBI and a home run. Julian added two hits.
Anderson ultimately took the loss in the circle after allowing four earned runs off five hits in three and one-third innings.
The Hawks face Des Moines Area Community College at 2 p.m. Friday in the Region XI-A Tournament in Boone, Iowa.
