BOONE & MASON CITY, Iowa – The Northeast Community College softball team was unable to mount any offensive effort on Friday and Saturday in ICCAC play, falling to No. 5 Des Moines Area Community College 8-0 and 11-1. The Hawks also lost to No. 20 North Iowa Area Community College 8-0 and 9-0.
Northeast (2-24, 0-8 ICCAC) squeaked out two hits against DMACC, one in each game.
Maggie Berryman (Norfolk, Neb.) and Jacqueline Denning (Sacramento, Calif.) had the lone hits.
Against NIACC, Sydney Kelley (Omaha, Neb.) had a double in the first game, while the Hawks didn't pick-up a hit in the final game of the weekend.
"This is what happens when kids are scared at the plate and we act like we don't care if we play or not," head coach Iris Woodhead said. "We have some players that have really developed this year, but we have others that are stagnant. We don't have players that want to step up because it's too hard, and that is an unfortunate mindset. As players and people, you get better by listening, applying and hard work. We lack all three qualities at this moment."
The Hawks continue conference action, taking on Iowa Lakes Community College at 2 and 4 p.m. Tuesday at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk.
