NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team had no answer for the strong pitching performance by No. 5 Des Moines Area Community College in conference play on Monday at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk.
The Bears topped the Hawks 13-0 and 14-2 in the nightcap to keep the Hawks (2-20, 0-4 ICCAC) winless in ICCAC action.
The Hawks were held to only two hits in the first game as Madison McKewon (Springfield, Neb.) and Jacqueline Denning (Sacramento, Calif.) each had a hit.
McKewon was dealt the loss, tossing just an inning, allowing six earned runs off seven hits.
Northeast managed to plate two runs in the final game of the doubleheader to pull within a run heading into the third inning. But, 11 runs in the final three innings proved to be the difference.
McKewon was 2-for-3 at the plate, with a double, a run and an RBI.
McKewon took the loss in the finale, throwing three and two-thirds innings, giving up nine earned runs off 10 hits.
Northeast was scheduled to play Iowa Lakes Community College Wednesday in Norfolk; however, the doubleheader was moved to April 9 with a 2 p.m. first pitch at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park due to impending weather.
The Hawks square off with North Iowa Area Community College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday in Mason City, Iowa.
