NORFOLK, Neb. – In its first home game of the season, the Northeast Community College softball team had a difficult time controlling the Southeast Community College hitters, falling 12-3 and 16-6 at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk.
The Hawks (0-10) held with the Storm until the fourth inning when Southeast put up six runs to quiet the Northeast bats. Abby Pierce (Brainard, Neb.) made it a one-run game in the bottom of the second when she singled in a run.
Northeast would add two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but it wasn't enough as the game ended due to mercy rule.
Inese Uribe (Riverside, Calif.) went 2-for-3 at the plate. Madison McKewon (Springfield, Neb.) took the loss after tossing three and two-thirds innings, allowing nine earned runs off 11 hits.
The Storm scored early and often in the finale, plating 15 runs through three innings. Northeast managed to scratch across two runs in the third and four in the fifth.
Chantel Julian (Roseville, Calif.) led the Hawks, going 3-for-3 with two RBI, two doubles and a run. Rosario Garcia (Northglenn, Colo.) and had two hits, with each recording a double.
Lindsey Anderson (Dunlap, Iowa) threw three innings, giving up 13 earned runs off 13 hits.
