NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 3 Northeast Community College men’s soccer team took on Western Iowa Tech Community College at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk Wednesday in their final match at home during the regular season. The Hawks took the tightly-contested matchup by a final score of 3-1.

Northeast (16-1-1, 7-0 ICCAC) continued their unbeaten streak in conference play with goals from Lewis Rourke (Nottingham, England), Edouard Nys (Dottignies, Belgium) and Tobias Gerber (Weiden, Germany). Both squads battled in windy conditions all day, but the Hawks defense allowed just one shot on goal to secure the victory. Northeast has now clinched a first-round bye in the Region 11 Tournament and will take on No. 1 Iowa Lakes Community College next Wednesday with the one seed in the Region 11 Tournament on the line.

Head Men's Soccer Coach Adam Potter on how his team came out today against WIT:
"It was a really good response," Potter said. "We were communicating, talking and really being disciplined. We were a unified group. We have been looking for that all season. Guys got behind the ball quickly and guys stepped behind challenges. Very good organization by our group today."
Potter on battling No. 1 Iowa Lakes next to end the regular season:
"Those are the games that you always want to play in," Potter said. "These are the games you live for. Get an opportunity to make some more Northeast history. Northeast has never beaten the No. 1 team in nation. It's something for us to have motivation going into the game and to have a little edge. An opportunity to go and win the conference title. We always have fun battles with Iowa Lakes, and here we go again."
