NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 3 Northeast Community College men's soccer team returned home Saturday night for a battle with Southeastern Community College. The Hawks dominated the contest and took a victory by a final score of 8-0.
Northeast (5-1) didn't start the quickest the showdown, but Keigo Yoshida (Yokohama, Japan) found the back of the net first like he did against Northwest Mississippi Community College on Monday. Like in Monday's 5-0 win, the floodgates opened once Yoshida scored as Edouard Nys (Dottignies, Belgium) tallied three goals and five other Hawks punched in goals as Northeast completed their second shutout of the week.
STAT SHEET:
Goals: Keigo Yoshida (Yokohama, Japan), Edouard Nys (Dottignies, Belgium) (3), Len Valkema (Leewarden, Netherlands), Ben Schoenherr (Norfolk, Neb.), Marius Elmose (Viby, Denmark), Archie Woodall (Worcester, England)
Assists: Ludovico Vicini (2), Luca Rosen (London, England), Len Valkema, Edouard Nys, Aleksander Pedersen (Aarhus, Denmark), Soeren Hermansen (Varde, Denmark), Cameron Wright (Omaha, Neb.) (2)
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Men's Soccer Coach Adam Potter on the 8-0 result:
"Overall, it was really good to see multiple different guys step up tonight and get on the score sheet," Potter said. "It was a little bit of a slow start from us, but it was good to see our guys spark things and get a little more energized and we were defending and going forward. It started with Keigo Yoshida again unlocking everything for us. Len Valkema was a big spark off the bench going forward and defending hard."
Potter on battling Central in Columbus next on Monday:
"Highway 81," Potter said. "It will take everything we have to be ready for that one. It's a trophy game on our schedule that is just as big as going to win a region title. We have to be ready."
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will make a short trek for a showdown with Central Community College at 5 p.m. Monday in Columbus, Nebraska.
