POPLARVILLE, Miss. – The No. 3 Northeast Community College men's soccer team took on No. 15 Pearl River Community College Saturday night in Poplarville, Mississippi after falling to No. 16 Jones College on Thursday. The Hawks took the wild showdown by a final score of 4-3 after scoring twice in the final minute.
Northeast (3-1) fell behind 2-0 in the first half before Luca Rosen (London, England) buried a penalty kick to cut the Hawks deficit to one. Northeast was then able to even the match at 2-2 in the 71st minute when the Wildcats put in an own goal. However, Pearl River retook the lead seven minutes later when in the 79th minute they buried their third goal of the night. The Hawks looked like their backs were up against the wall until Billy Bradley (Bournemouth, England) evened the score at 3-3 in the 89th and final minute.
The entire Northeast lineup hurried back to midfield to get the ball into play and went back on the attack. Ludovico Vicini (Modena, Italy) collected a rebound from the Wildcats goalie and sent in a screamer from outside of the 18-yard box that found the back of the net with 20 seconds remaining in the match to give the Hawks a triumph in the most improbable of fashions.
