NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's soccer team came out of halftime on fire, scoring four goals in the final 45 minutes to defeat North Iowa Area Community College, 5-1 at Veterans Memorial Park in Norfolk.
The Hawks (3-12, 2-3 ICCAC) broke a 1-1 tie at halftime, thanks to two goals from Paul Einero (Cape Town, South Africa) in the 53rd and 54th-minute. Caio Carrara (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tallied a goal in the 50th-minute, while Arturo Castro (Norfolk, Neb.) chipped in a goal in the 71st-minute. Conner Bickford (Arvada, Colo.) put the Hawks on the scoreboard in the first half after the Trojans were first on the scoreboard.
Northeast outshot NIACC, 17-9. Jyson Breitbarth (Hilo, Hawaii) recorded four saves.
"This was a much-needed win for us," head coach Chad Miller said. "We knew coming in, this would be a competitive game and when NIACC got on the board early, I was hoping we could respond in a positive way. We seemed to play with a bit of a spark, and it showed in a positive result."
The Hawks hit the road to square off with Scott Community College at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Bettendorf, Iowa.
