NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's soccer team fell on Wednesday to NJCAA DI No.2-ranked Iowa Western Community College, 2-0 at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
The Hawks (1-5) held strong for the first half, giving up just one goal to the Reivers. Iowa Western did what they do best and found the go-ahead goal in the second half.
"I think we have to take this as a win for us," head coach Chad Miller said. "Iowa Western dominated this match but being able to keep the score close is a win when you play a team like them. They are always one of the best in the nation, so I am happy with the result. We did what we focused on in practice and did a much better job shoring up our defense and limiting mistakes. It was tough getting forward because of the team speed of Iowa Western. I feel we can find some growth from this."
Jyson Breitbarth (Hilo, Hawaii) had 15 saves for the Hawks.
The Hawks hit the road and square off with Marshalltown Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday in Marshalltown, Iowa.
