OTTUMWA, Iowa – The Northeast Community College men's soccer team had its season come to an end on Saturday at the hands of Indian Hills Community College in an ICCAC match in Ottumwa, Iowa.
The Hawks (2-13-1, 0-8-1 ICCAC) netted two goals in the second half, but it wasn't enough as Indian Hills came out on top, 4-2.
Rocky Guevara (Norfolk, Neb.) gave the Hawks their first goal of the game off an assist from Breno Neves (Brasilia, Brazil) in the 55th-minute. Victor Vechi (Itajai, Brazil) hit a penalty kick in the 88th-minute, but the Hawks' offense ultimately fell short.
Indian Hills out-shot the Hawks, 39-12. Joseph Ramirez (Gig Harbor, Wash.) and Ivan Castillo-Garcia (Broomfield, Colo.) each had nine saves in the net.
"Indian Hills is a quality, well-coached team and they showed it most of the match," head Chad Miller said. "They have a high-powered offense and our defense did a good job of not allowing good shots. When we had the chance to go forward with the ball, we rushed it a little in the first half of play, but were able to slow it down a bit in the second half, which gave us some chances at the goal. The team really finished the season playing good soccer."
