COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College men's soccer team held No. 5 Iowa Western Community College to one goal for 45 minutes, but the final 45 minutes were a different story.
The Reivers added 10 goals in the second half to defeat the Hawks (2-8, 0-3 ICCAC) 11-0 in ICCAC play Tuesday at the Reiver Sports Complex in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
"We played a good first half defensively and even got some good options going forward," head coach Chad Miller said. "The second half was completely different. Iowa Western was attacking in numbers and we couldn't close the space down fast enough. Once the first couple of goals went in, there was no stopping the rest."
The Hawks were out-shot, 20-0. Goalie Ivan Castillo-Garcia (Broomfield, Colo.) had six saves in the loss.
Northeast returns home for a conference match against Hawkeye Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
