Allowing a goal in the first two minutes of the match wasn't the plan for the Northeast Community College men's soccer team. Iowa Central Community College went on to defeat the Hawks 3-1 in ICCAC play on Saturday in Ft. Dodge, Iowa.
Down 2-0 after halftime, Nickolas Gamma gave the Hawks a spark, finding the back of the net in the 56th minute off an assist from Arthur Lopez. It wasn't long before the Tritons found the scoreboard, tallying a goal off a penalty-kick that ultimately secured the victory for the home team.
"We struggled in the first, but I felt we played well in the second," head coach Chad Miller said. "We still tried to do too much at times instead of trusting each other, but our effort and intensity was a lot higher. The ball didn't bounce our way tonight."
The Hawks (5-9, 4-6 ICCAC) return home to battle Northeastern Junior College at 1 p.m. at Memorial Field in Norfolk.
