NORFOLK, Neb. – The season came to an end for the Northeast Community College men's soccer team on Sunday, dropping a nonconference match to No. 12 Northeastern Junior College 2-0 at Memorial Field in Norfolk.
The Hawks held Northeastern in check for much of the first half, allowing just a goal. However, Northeast was unable to find any open spaces down the stretch to create opportunities for its offense.
"Northeastern did a good job of closing down our space and causing us problems in the attack," head coach Chad Miller said. "We have kind of been our worst enemy all year with missed opportunities. It is unfortunate that the men's season has come to an end. I feel this is a team that could really have done some good things if we could have found that consistent play. But in comparison to past years as far as scores, this has been the most competitive men's team we have had. Each game we felt there was a chance no matter what the other teams rank was."
Northeastern outshot the Hawks 15-4. Goalie Massimiliano Simonazzi held strong in the net, tallying eight saves.
The Hawks lose eight sophomores to graduation and will look to return 18 first-year members.
