NORTHEAST MEN’S GOLF WINS TROPHY AT BRIAR CLIFF SPRING MATCH PLAY IN SIOUX CITY
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The No. 10 Northeast Community College men’s golf team traveled to Sioux City, Iowa Thursday and Friday to compete in the Briar Cliff Spring Match Play at Green Valley Golf Course. As the No. 2 seed, the Hawks downed No. 7 Briar Cliff University and No. 3 Morningside University on Thursday before topping No. 1 Northwestern College on Friday to win the event and bring a trophy back to Norfolk.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The No. 10 Northeast Community College men's golf team traveled to Sioux City, Iowa Thursday and Friday to compete in the Briar Cliff Spring Match Play at Green Valley Golf Course. As the No. 2 seed, the Hawks downed No. 7 Briar Cliff University and No. 3 Morningside University on Thursday before topping No. 1 Northwestern College on Friday to win the event and bring a trophy back to Norfolk.
The two-day event was set up as a match play tournament, which meant the starting five for Northeast were individually taking on five others from the schools they were competing against. In their first matchup, the Hawks downed Briar Cliff University 3.5-1.5 as Jacob Harnden (Cobourg, Canada), Tommy Dredla (Scottsbluff, Neb.) and Tyler Baumchen (Topeka, Kan.) all were victorious in their matches while Bryson Parker (Turpin, Okla.) tied his.
Against Morningside University, Northeast won 3-2 with Luke Bonser (Durham, England), Dredla and Baumchen winning their matches. On Friday in the Championship Match against Northwestern College, Harnden, Dredla, Baumchen and Parker all won their matches to give the Hawks a 4-1 triumph and the overall win in the event.
The victory marks the first team triumph under the guidance of head coach Ty Heimes and should continue to propel Northeast up the national rankings this week before they head to Newton, Kansas this upcoming weekend to compete in the Bethel Spring Invitational.

Head Men's Golf Coach Ty Heimes on the week in Sioux City:
"We played well all week," Heimes said. "We've been working really hard on our putting and doing some new drills that are starting to pay off. That was our best week putting that we've had this whole year. The guys played well all week."
Heimes on securing his first team victory as a head coach:
"It's exciting," Heimes said. "I'm excited for the guys. They were pretty pleased with their performance. It was a good win and now we have to focus on the next tournament ahead."
Heimes on looking ahead to the Bethel Spring Invitational this week:
"We are playing two very good courses," Heimes said. "Sand Creek Station Golf Course is one of the tougher courses that we will play all year. That will be a good challenge for our guys, and with how competitive they are, I think they will welcome that challenge."
