BONSER WINS FIRST-EVER EVENT AT NORTHEAST BY THREE STROKES
YANKTON, S.D. – The Northeast Community College men’s golf team opened their season with the Mount Marty Invitational in Yankton, South Dakota on Monday and Tuesday. Freshman Luke Bonser (Durham, England) won the two-day event by three strokes while the Hawks finished second as a team in the tournament.

Freshman Luke Bonser (Durham, England) won the two-day event by three strokes while the Hawks finished second as a team in the tournament.
Bonser was competing in his first-ever collegiate event with the Hawks and went five shots under par in Round 2 at Fox Run Golf Course to run away from the field. Jacob Harnden (Cobourg, Canada) also put together an impressive performance as his score of -4 over the two days was enough to finish second by three strokes over third place. The Hawks battled throughout the tournament as a team and finished just one stroke shy off the winning total and the Northeast lineup tied for second place in a 15-team field.

Head Men's Golf Coach Ty Heimes on the victory from freshman Luke Bonser:
"What a great start to Luke's career at Northeast!" Heimes said. "He works hard and he takes his pre-tournament preparation very seriously. He has loads of talent and he's a great kid. I'm really happy for him and am excited to see what his future holds."
Heimes on the second-place finish from Jacob Harnden and the runner-up finish from his team:
"It was a great tournament from Jacob," Heimes said. "Again, he takes his pre-tournament preparation very seriously and he works hard. I was happy with the team's performance as well. I felt our guys one-through-nine in our lineup played solidly. We have some things we can fix, but it was a great start to the year."
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will head to the Blue River Classic next Wednesday and Thursday at Highland Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska for a two-day event.
