BOONE, Iowa – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team fought hard early before ultimately falling to Des Moines Area Community College Wednesday night, 91-70 in Boone, Iowa.
The Hawks (4-16, 0-10 ICCAC) put up yet another strong first-half fight in the ICCAC showdown. A three-point shot banked off the glass from Jaden Strachen (Nassau, Bahamas) with 8:40 remaining in the first half gave the Hawks an 18-15 lead, and the rest of the half was a seesaw affair.
Evan Decker (Omaha, Neb.) had a huge night scoring with 23 points and six rebounds. Emaniel Alexandre (Nassau, Bahamas) added 10 points and another six rebounds. Nine was the magic number for Jared Lopez (Lincoln, Neb.) as he contributed nine points and nine rebounds.
A 3-pointer from Tanner Oestreich (Battle Creek, Neb.) with 9:42 left in the second half ensured that every Hawks player to hit the floor entered the scoring column, but the 54 second-half points from the Bears were too much to overcome.
The Hawks don't have a game on the schedule for this weekend and will play next at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa.
