CRESTON, Iowa – Emaniel Alexandre (Nassau, Bahamas) was on fire from everywhere on the court Thursday night as the Northeast Community College men's basketball team fell to Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa.
The Hawks (4-13, 0-7 ICCAC) were defeated 82-58 by the Spartans in the ICCAC bout.
Alexandre scored 34 points in the loss while shooting 14-of-24 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the three-point line. Jared Lopez (Lincoln, Neb.) contributed an additional seven points and seven rebounds, while Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) chipped in seven points and four rebounds.
The Hawks fell behind by as many as nine points early in the first half, but a steal and a layup from Collin Storr (Nassau, Bahamas) and a layup from Alexandre gave the Hawks a 18-17 lead with 5:21 to play in the half.
The two teams went at each other hard during the remainder of the first half, and the Spartans led 34-27 at the halftime break. The Spartans parlayed that halftime lead into continued second-half success, and slowly pulled away from the Hawks as the game concluded. All three of Alexandre's three-point makes came in the second half as he played 19 of the final 20 minutes.
Head coach Dan Anderson's squad was active on the offensive glass as they were able to muster four more second-chance points than the Spartans, having an 11-7 edge in that category.
The Hawks will hit the road again for an 1 p.m. tipoff Saturday against North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa.
